CS + Kreme, Valentina Magaletti & Time Is Away at Strange Brew
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"Live ambient downbeat fusion from Australia’s finest unclassifiable trip-jazz / not-dub-techno / dream-pop / ????? duo, CS + Kreme. They’ll try to prove that Talk Talk could definitely have made Detroit techno (and it would sound AHMAZING), while Valentina Magaletti conjures that pure unadulterated Tomaga / Moin / Holy Tongue percussive magic. Another classic Schwet then, and one of your last for a while : ("

THEE PENULTIMATE SCHWET JOINT!?
Re; the rumours - this will be the last Schwet for the foreseeable*, going out in fine style! (*excluding 'Schwetfest X' on 6th May TBA).

CS + Kreme return to Schwet and Strange Brew after what was generally agreed upon as the most ear-bending set the venue has seen to date...

"CS + Kreme are Conrad Standish and Sam Karmel–two Australians who record slow, hallucinatory music. Based in and around the hinterlands of Naarm/Melbourne. Their latest offering to The Trilogy Tapes - 'Orange' is composed of skittering drum programming, invocatory voices and dubwise treatments. Transcending style and space, CS + Kreme don't follow a philosophy of making music, what they do is more fluid. They write slow and meditative "horizontal-music" which takes in heavy dub processing, sweeping post-punk and chamber soundscapes.

In Karmel's words, "Inherently, there are influences that come through without us even realising. It's kind of that cliche where people put their two cents forward for what our influences are, but I don't think we've set out to be like anyone or anything."

"Valentina Magaletti is a drummer, composer and percussionist whose goal is to strategically enrich a folkloristic and eclectic palette through endless listening and experimentation with new materials and sounds.

A veteran of the Schwet, we've nearly lost track of the performacnes she has gifted us over the years: as CZN, Tomaga, UUUU and Holy Tongue. She last performed solo for us almost exactly 6 years ago (in the crypt alongside Andrea Belfi) and we can't wait to see how this has progressed.

And a Schwet debut from the game-changing duo @timeisaway . Deploying their enigmatic collection of heady sonics, they will build throughout the evening to an extended backroom set after the CS+K performance...!

"Time is Away work across radio, research, site-specific sound-works and DJing. Over nine years as residents on NTS Radio, they have combined spoken word, field recordings and music as part of an ongoing reflection on the relationship between time, place and power. In January 2023 they released Ballads their first double vinyl compilation on A Colourful Storm.

General Release includes backroom afterparty 11-3am
