Rien Virgule, simply one of Europe’s most powerful and idiosyncratic bands!
Alongside names such as: Heimat, Nina Harker and France Sauvage, RV are at the forefront of a larger movement within the French underground. It has no name, no restraints and no clear agenda other than to inject bold new ideas and perspectives into the realms of post-punk, folk, psychedelia and industrial music.
They have released three near-perfect LPs since 2015. Stop what yr doing and go get them in ya ears. They’ve managed to carve out a fresh din, a distillation of familiar elements into something mystical and enchanting. Masters of melodrama, their signature sound is a tale of theatrics and dynamics, tension & release, rise & fall, the brutal and the brittle. Despite practically no direct references to the tired genre and its tropes, they are one of the most original Goth group in a generation.
Surely one of the most captivating vocalists operating in the DIY underground, Anne Careil’s vocals are ever-despaired, nigh-on operatic. An otherworldly siren-call that hits you as if she is bestowing a grave warning, beamed in from a parallel universe. Virgulian instrumentation is typically comprised of impossibly epic and fantastical compositions that are practically Biblical in their scope. Wagnerian bombast abound!
Effervescent synths, mechanical industro-rhythms, concrète conjurations and ballistic FX’d percussion are their forte. Warbling organ keys add an air of a religious sermon to their repertoire, whilst sometimes shifting into a surreal, haunted fairground soundscape. In short, you will transcend into in a ball of Pure Black Light or yr £$ back...
Mega very excited to welcome The Fertile Crescent to Bristol for their first show outside London. Not sure there's a more suited support act in this realm!
A duo comprised of Susu Laroche and Oxhy, two strikingly original artists in their own right Together they have so far yielded the '6G' EP for Haunter Records and their debut album 'strategy of two heavens' for Xquisite Releases. This full-length has fully gripped me, on repeat for months, my favourite act in London right now.
