Bruno & The Outrageous Methods of Presentation
The second edition of Bruno's Bag of Walnuts after a truly unhinged inaugural edition with The Schizophonics and Top Left Club in November.
Bruno sez:
Hi, Bruno Bof here, Teen Idol and the titular singing / guitaring star of Bruno and the Outrageous Methods of Presentation, beat combo supreme of ascendant unfamy…
I introduce to you my new semi-regular night, Bruno Bof’s Bagful of Walnuts, at which my band and I will always play (+ I will be compere) alongside other curated talent of my choice. Artists will range from reasonably hip and rockin and doing well and that to thee MOST NO COUNT OF NO COUNTDOM. But mediocrity is the common enemy.
Evicshen
Evicshen is the nom de guerre of sound artist, experimental music performer, and inventor Victoria Shen. Based in San Francisco, her sound practice is concerned with the physicality of sound and its relationship to the human body, eschewing harmony and rhythm in favour of extreme textures and gesture. Analog synthesizers are the backbone of her music but when performing live she plays self-made electronics, invented instruments, and even acoustic objects like a bull whip. Muddling the boundaries between performer and audience, stage and floor, vacillating between moments of restraint and swells of frenetic and confrontational movement. A tightrope walk between control and chance, the whiff of danger is never far during Shen’s performances.
Shen is also the inventor of Needle Nails, acrylic nails with embedded turntable needles allowing her to play up to 5 tracks of a record at once. Her debut LP, Hair Birth, features copper album art that transforms the cover into a loudspeaker through which the record can be played. Recently, Shen has started releasing hand-made resin records embedded with found materials, each piece functions as playable record and art object.
Adrian Dannatt
Who is he? Who isn’t he? What has he done? What hasn’t he done? Or more importantly, what the fuck is he gonna be doing at this show. I don’t know. But presumably it will not disappoint. Adrian Dannatt is equal parts cosmic wanderer, also-ran 70s child star, situationist shit-stirrer, psychedelic comedian and uh. A bunch of other things. Not sure really. I think he’s an art curator. Or something. He also carries around a notepad and writes what he deems to be valuable empirical data/connections/etc on his respective subjects. Yeah. Knows everyone n that. His mother is 100 years old. Something like that. I think he writes obituaries and has avoided any kind of physical work. Described by Guy Debord as ‘ce héros journaliste’ and angrily dismissed as a no-good troublemaker by Malcolm McLaren… this is the level we’re contending with here. Basta.
Michael Smith aka Dark Fox
Michael Smith is a tiresome autistic perfectionist who has been creating an empire surrounding his animated furry DeviantArt dark-sci-fi grotesque violent hyper-sexual vision, DARK FOX, running entirely on pink-milk, biscuits and a Vitamin D deficiency. A feature length film has been in the works for God knows how many years… the works of Chris Chan come to mind… he will be rambling out-of-tune musings on said world backed by outsider “dance” music by equal Bristol outsider luminary and Steve Buscemi lookalike Matthew (forgot his second name; doesn’t matter, he goes by many different pseudonyms… “black cats” et al anyway yeah he rules also) who has a loud voice always wears a blazer with safety pins and grey joggers, and his aesthetic world of “Watney’s Rock” is inspired by all brilliantly wrong w this country, 70s detritus, Lawrence, celebrity autobiographies (Diana Dors etc), the Krankies, Confessions of… films… this is meant to be reflected in his music. It somehow isn’t. But fascinating nonetheless. Anyway yeah they’re both gonna rock together. I think accompanied by some Dark Fox-related visual projections too.
