Megaverse and Townhouses present a one off live show at Strange Brew that brings audiences into the performance in a new way. Built around a live set from Townhouses, the show is surrounded by large scale visuals created live during the performance. Rather than pre-programmed content, what appears on screen is generated in the moment, rendered live as the band plays. The performance exists across the room and online at the same time. Audiences watching remotely experience the show live, connected to what is happening on stage. At points during the set, online audiences are invited to take part, with their input feeding back into the visuals seen in the venue, linking the room and the stream in real time. The show opens up new ways for audiences to be present and connected, whether they are standing in the room or taking part online. Developed as part of an ongoing research and development project funded by CoSTAR National Lab, the work explores how responsive visuals and connected audiences could become a practical part of small venue live music, rather than something limited to large scale productions. We are exploring how technology innovations might connect artists, audiences and venues in new ways, and how this could support new business models in the pursuit of a more equitable live music ecosystem. During this performance, some data about you (for example, your body movements) may be captured anonymously via cameras and microphones in the venue. This data will be used to influence the live experience and will not be stored or used for any other purpose. At the end of the performance we will ask if you would be willing to complete an anonymous online survey to share your thoughts on what you have experienced.
