Our 7th annual Halloween party and first time hosting it at Strange Brew, we’re joined by UK dance music behemoth Pearson Sound, Mzansi Bass vanguardist Shannen SP, Brussels’-most-blunted Iced Lattina and a special warmup bestie2bestie from fig & meterman.
⛤ Pearson Sound
Emerging from the murk of the mid-00s dubstep continuum as Ramadanman, Pearson Sound has spent the best part of two decades twisting UK club music into ever stranger shapes. His skeletal, pressure-heavy productions sit somewhere between the weirder fringes of UK bass and techno, built from clipped percussion, cavernous negative space and rhythms that seem to move when you’re not looking.
Alongside Ben UFO and Pangaea, he co-founded Hessle Audio, a label that helped redraw the map of UK dance music in the post-dubstep era and remains a defining force in the UK underground. 2016’s monolithic ‘XLB’ became an unlikely festival weapon, while more recent transmissions through Hessle, Timedance and TraTraTrax find Pearson still conjuring strange forms from the dancefloor.
⛤ Shannen SP
Operating at the forefront of London’s nexus for Afrodiasporic dance music, Shannen SP has become one of the leading voices pushing forward the sounds of South Africa’s 3Step, gqom and amapiano, pairing them with an uncanny ear for bassweight drawn from the UK’s soundsystem lineage. From her iconic NTS show to the cult Ø parties she co-curated for Hyperdub alongside Kode9, through to the acclaimed ‘Mzansi Bass’ compilation, her work has built vital new connections between scenes, sounds and dancefloors across the globe.
⛤ Iced Lattina
Kiosk Radio resident and curator of Brussels’ unruly ZaZa parties, Iced Lattina digs through the scuzziest corners of rap’s online underground, pulling from plugg, drill, grime, hexd and a litany of other microgenres. A syncretic selector with a taste for the deep-fried, blown-out and hyper-online, she makes her Bristol debut with us this Halloween.
Warm up comes from PTS resident fig in a special b2b with long time friend of the party meterman
