LOMA + SHEARWATER + ANY KIND

LOMA + SHEARWATER + ANY KIND at Strange Brew

A gig held at Strange Brew on Sunday 22nd November. The event starts at 19:00.

Loma and Shearwater almost seem fated to tour together. Both feature songwriter Jonathan Meiburg and producer Dan Duszynski, hail from Austin, Texas, and release music through Seattle’s Sub Pop. Both also feature an Emily — Emily Cross in Loma and Emily Lee in Shearwater.

But the two bands are distinct in the ways only siblings can be. Cross’s calm, enveloping voice sits at the heart of Loma’s pastoral, mesmerising sound, while Shearwater’s music is more expansive and extroverted. Since their last tours in 2018, both have released two albums, with Loma’s Don’t Shy Away and How Will I Live Without A Body? joined by Shearwater’s The Great Awakening and The New World.

Now, after an unexpected eight-year break from live performance, the two bands are finally touring together. With six musicians moving between the two projects, the shows offer a rare chance to experience both worlds in a single night, with Dan Duszynski’s solo project Any Kind also opening.
