Schwet Fiesta en el Vacio, Acte Bonte, Leyden Jars at Strange Brew
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"The world will burn, but at least we have some Schwet to look forward to. The cvlt obscurity-wave generator returns with the greatest flamenco coldwave artist on earth; Fiesta en el Vacio serves singularly icy drum machine balladry alongside smudged radiophonic dub-pop sensations Leyden Jars. Unmissable FFO: Anika, Tuxedomoon, Broadcast, Mordant Music, CS & Kreme, Voice Actor."

A gig held at Strange Brew on Thursday 18th April. The event starts at 19:00.

Schwet returns after a period of R&D, giving what you need (never what you want).

Fiesta en el Vacio - "Eccentric and shapeshifting multi-faceted recordings from French / Argentinia enigma Luna Maria Cedron - our new favourite artist. It’s music that sounds like everything and nothing, a clash of centuries-old folklore and the sounds of today’s urban grit. Sparse scorched electronics collide with waltzing Flemenco rhythms lifted by close-mic’d vocals with plenty of Latin fire.

There’s a magic in the air that’s really pulling us in, deeply melancholic Venezuelan folk rubbing up to abrasive minimal synth pieces adds a strong sense of protest and anarchy, but most importantly, intent.

Few in recent memory have archived such a cohesive sound from absorbing / exhibiting such a diverse set of influences and traditions. In a post-internet age where it’s increasingly difficult to be unique and original, Fiesta En El Vacío couldn’t do it more naturally. Best of the year, no joke." - Allnightflight

Acte Bonté - "Sororal synth-voice duo of Rebecca and Fiona Brunet, formed in 2017 in Brussels. Strangely as pop as they are experimental, as melancholic as they are melodic, their bittersweet songs, whispered in French, English and Japanese, hide their lyrics behind a leading vocoder, where the flickering traces of a ghostly lyricism appear."

Leyden Jars - "London based duo Natalie Williams & Mark Courtney. Fragmented musicality, electro-acoustic emission, disembodied dub, radiophonic interference, and revelatory DIY poetics. A characteristically discrete, elusive and unique entity, situated beyond any concrete framework. Often, their work evokes a somewhat contradictory image, eliciting both the rattle and clang of some cluttered private workshop, as well as the stereoscopic echoes and sleek processes of some GRM-esque sound ‘lab’."

Entry requirements: 14+, any under 18s accompanied by 21+ adult 1:1 ratio
