Anecdotes Issue 02 launches with a boom! Join us on the 27th of May at Strange Brew to celebrate the second issue of Anecdotes! Made by the Anecdotes Community made up of artists, writers and creatives including Merchant Events, Felix Amos, Stang, UmitheDolphin, Immy Lewis, Skanda Jazzy and so many more! The magazine is completely collaboratively run by a smaller group who work in line with what the over 40 contributors want to see! We are supported by this community as well as the events and music organisations we cover, so big thank you to Cute Cartel, Reload Sound, Grapevine, The Cause Bristol and Merchant!

This time round we are exploring 'Alternative spaces' and how they aren't just places, they're moments, movements, and communities that exist beyond the mainstream. A repurposed venue, a patch of concrete where people gather, a party that shouldn't technically be happening,  if it brings people together outside the ordinary, it counts.

Because a space isn't just four walls. Turbo Island and Brass Pig aren't defined by bricks and mortar, they're defined by the people who fill them. Alternative spaces are built by communities, and that's what makes them radical.

Inside this issue: the politics of free parties, venues that challenge and heal, personal stories from the edges of Bristol's most vital communities, and so much more. Welcome to the spaces that matter most precisely because they were never supposed to exist.

We will be selling the magazine, presenting our work and selling art made by our community all night long! Magazines will be £6 and buying them is very much appreciated but not necessary.

As for music we have 2 DJs from The Cause Bristol, who work to make the music scene in Bristol accessible to people from all different backgrounds. They’re playing some gentle jazzy house, amping up through the night. Creating a good atmosphere in which to appreciate the artwork we are exhibiting from Stang, Rio Thomas, Ella-Maria, Lewis Baker as well as a range of artists part of Art Society Bristol. This is a place for everyone to share their work, their wonderful creations with each other as well as create art together with our interactive arts area. This is where we will create a large canvas filled with whatever may be in your head on the 27th, as well as letters which you write and hand off and receive one in return from a stranger! This is not a flat experience. We want everyone to make a friend and have a memento, a physical thing which shows they were there at that specific time. We are a sentimental bunch, if you couldn’t tell.

This is not to mention our short film area, this will be a chilled out secluded area from the dancefloor, exhibition and bar where you can sit, drink your drink and have a chat while enjoying a reel of short films produced by the Anecdotes community.

As for the after party, well we have a lot in store, Grapevine will be here in force! Following on from some absolutely phenomenal nights at Jam Jar, Full Moon Club and The Cider Box Nat Alkin, Uncle Fred and Salter are here at Strange Brew to spin some major garage tunes into the late night, in the illustrious backroom! Music will start in here at 11pm and go on until 2am, it will cost £5 to enter this afterparty but you can remain in the front room for absolutely free!

More information about articles, art and the music is available at AnecdotesMagazine on instagram, we have a lot more to announce so stay tuned!!

Anyways I’ll stop blabbering on, see you there

Love Anecdotes
