A gig held at Strange Brew on Wednesday 8th March. The event starts at 19:30.

"Slovenian ‘imaginary folk’ instrumental trio. Handmade and global instrumentation meets fearless sound exploration. These expansive compositions echo the borderless, collective spirit of groups like Don Cherry's Organic Music Society and Art Ensemble of Chicago."

Pleased to welcome one of our favourite "folk" groups on Earth to Schwet! I was obsessed with their vividly textured '17 debut 'I Can Be a Clay Snapper' and they've just released their 80-min opus 'The Liquified Throne of Simplicity', both receiving all-the-acclaim etc. yada yada.

Širom are:
Ana Kravanja: viola, daf, ocarinas, mizmar, balafon, ribab, various objects, voice.
Iztok Koren: guembri, banjos, tank drum, bass drum, percussion, balafon, various objects, chimes.
Samo Kutin: hurdy gurdy, tampura brač, lyre, lute, brač, chimes, balafon, frame drum, ocarina, acoustic resonators, various objects, voice.

"Abstract and rustic folklore, dream-realism, explorative intensity and cathartic ritual...fearlessly textured sonic landscapes – both linked to and unbound by – the past and present, geography and tradition, the real and imagined. Hypnotic, otherworldly and epic."

FFO: Popol Vuh, Sun City Girls, Sunburned Hand of the Man, La Nòvia collectif, early Gnod...
_____________________

You know Marlene from her time serving in the Gnod squad and maybe her lush Negra Branca LPs from TEN years back now (reissue soon I heard!). Then there was the incredible 'Due Matte' collab with @valentina_magaletti in '20.

She returns to Schwet under own name with a new LP for Rocket Recordings in tow. Hugely melodic and feat. more instruments than I can name and woven together from recordings made in Ireland, Wales, Portugal, Madeira and Salford, it's a massive leap in scope from her previous. She has insisted in the past that she's an accidental/reluctant musician, but this new record is evoking some of the all-time greats!?

Imagine a combo of the Polish Moon Folk of Księżyc with Balearic Industrial of Grecian Queen Lena Platonos, or contemporaries like the heat-dazed loop-dreamjazz of Tara Clerkin & the exploratory folk-industrial of Margenrot.
