There will be home-made Palestinian food for sales. Vegan option will be available. Please come join us for the delicious dinner! We will be screening two different videos:

1/ The Time That Remains (2009). A semi-biographical film that follows Palestinian life from 1948 to the present day through the story of director Elia Suleiman's family. It depicts the Elia and her father's experiences. The film uses a comedic and surreal style to portray the daily life, absurdities, and humiliations of Palestinians living as a minority in their own homeland. Salma chose to screen this as she wants to show that Palestinians are also funny. We always see Palestinians pain and suffering on the TV, we must remember all the other sides of Palestinian life and culture.

2/ Inside Life in the Occupied West Bank (2026). Despite the severity of the situation, Palestinian residents in Masafer Yatta, a rural community in West Bank, continue to embrace life in alignment with their identity and connection to the land. They maintain this connection through sumud, a Palestinian cultural value, ideological framework, and political strategy meaning “steadfastness.” The Gazan scholar chose this documentary, because we don't talk about the West Bank enough, even though West Bank is also under severe oppression and violence. The producer Aidan Frere-Smith will be joining us for a quick Q&A after the screening.

We are screening this in remembrance of the Nakba. Join the Bristol PSC 9 May demonstration too! The Nakba (النَّكْبَة), which means “catastrophe” in Arabic, refers to the mass displacement and dispossession of Palestinians in 1948. Today, the violence and genocide continues. Every year on May 15, we mark the Nakba and we reiterate: From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free. Palestinians shall return to their homeland!

Accessibility info: The room where we do the screening is wheelchair accessible, but the door to access to the disabled toilets is temporarily limited to 90cm wide whilst renovation works continue. We are dedicated to making the event as accessible and inclusive as we can. If the ticket price is an issue, or if you have any accessibility requirement, please get in touch through dm-ing Bristol Leftist Collective on Instagram!
