"Casual violence, militarisation and warped perceptions of his Palestinian homeland follow a deadpan filmmaker on his travels in the West. The Arc screens Elia Suleiman’s acclaimed-but-underseen It Must Be Heaven – a tragi-comic political satire that’s drawn comparison to Jacques Tati and Roy Andersson in its wryly absurdist style. All funds go directly to supporting families in Gaza, so dig deep."

We will be screening It Must Be Heaven (2019). Elia Suleiman escapes from Palestine seeking an alternative homeland, only to find that Palestine is trailing behind him. The promise of a new life turns into a comedy of errors: however far he travels, from Paris to New York. The movie follows Elia as he wryly observes the absurdity of militarism, capitalism, and occupation in cities from Palestine to Europe to the USA.
Accessibility info: The room where we do the screening is wheelchair accessible, but the door to access to the disabled toilets is temporarily limited to 90cm wide whilst renovation works continue. We are dedicated to making the event as accessible and inclusive as we can. If the ticket price is an issue, or if you have any accessibility requirement, please get in touch through dm-ing Bristol Leftist Collective on Instagram!
