Sam Massey Ensemble at The Be-bop Club
£9.00

A gig held at The Be-Bop Club on Friday 13th October. The event starts at 20:30pm.

Sam Massey is a talented trumpeter and teacher based down in Devon. Some may have heard him playing at the Hen & Chicken in Mike Westbrook’s A Bigger Show a while back. “trumpeter Sam Massey fuses lyricism, abstraction and Miles Davis-like pungency on the gripping Juxtapositions.” John Fordham, The Guardian live review, February 2016. Sam has formed this new septet from some of the best players in the SW to play his arrangements of tunes by composers such as Steve Waterman, Kenny Wheeler and Laurence Cottle, plus originals from the band members. Trumpet/flugelhorn – Sam Massey & Robin Pengilley, saxes, alto flute & EWI – Jade Gall, trombone – Sam Smith, piano – Lewis Riley, bass – Jim Rintoul and drums – Coach York. Great to see Lewis Riley playing in Bristol, who many will know from his many years directing the Dartington International Jazz Summer School.
