Birmingham based trombonist Andy Derrick brings his soulful and rich sound back to his hometown with a new set exploring a range of standards and originals. From hot and happy swing to modal, funk and Latin, his award winning sound has drawn much praise from audiences and critics alike. Andy Derrick has worked alongside such great UK musicians as Dennis Rollins, Alan Barnes and Mark Nightingale. Andy has also had a long career backing many fine musicians including Joe Lovano, Toots Thielmans, Bob Florence, Bobby Shew and Georgie Fame. He studied at the Birmingham and Paris Conservatoires and is a former member of both MYJO and NYJO. He received the Don Lusher Best Trombonist award at the 2005 BBC big Band Contest. For tonight he is backed by the fine rhythm section of George Cooper - piano, Dave Guy - bass and Andy Hague - drums.
