Freight And Agm at Big Chill Bar, Bristol
£3/2 members, FREE before 8pm

A gig held at The Big Chill Bar on Tuesday 25th March. The event starts at 20:00.

Okay, you JazzFunkSoulites, let's get serious, because 1) we have the seriously incredible Freight, featuring Bristol jazz megatron and JFS favourite Craig Crofton coming to smash it and 2) we have our Annual General Meeting at 6pm, in the Study upstairs at the Big Chill.

----------------

Time to give you some info re: AGM. Do read ahead - this meeting is held only once a year, and it's vital for the future of the society that everyone who can attend does attend, so if you're around at 6pm next Tuesday, it would be great to see you there.

This is a message from Patrick von Glehn, current Presidente Extraordinaire (you may have seen the email):

The AGM has two major functions - to give all society members a chance to have their say on how the society is run and to elect next year's committee. The most important responsibility of each committee member is to have a relentless and completely disproportionate enthusiasm for the JAZZ FUNK SOUL SOCIETY and to display this enthusiasm EVERY SINGLE TUESDAY at the Big Chill. It is the hard work and near 100% attendance of every member on the current committee that has allowed the society to grow from strength to strength this year and to be an absolute pleasure for me to lead. I would encourage anybody who regularly enjoys attending JFS events to help assure the continued success of the society by attending the AGM and by considering running for a committee position.

The available positions are detailed below including the current occupier of that role (in brackets). If you would like to run for a committee position please send an e-mail to jfsbristol@http://www.gmail.com with"committee elections" in the subject line BEFORE Friday 21 March. If you are standing for election by all means let your friends know but please note that overhyped campaigns e.g. Facebook groups/events are not encouraged. A list of candidates standing for election will be sent out to the mailing list before the AGM.

President (Patrick von Glehn)

Oversees the running of the society.

Vice President (James Vine)

Takes charge in president's absence. Currently no other constitutionally defined responsibilities but will take an active role in the general running of the society.

Treasurer (Julia Sequeira)

Takes care of all financial matters within the society (this is a high responsibility role).

Secretary (Steve Hardman)

Takes minutes in meetings, in charge of scheduling the tasks to be done by committee members.

Workshop officer (Greg Oxenham)

Organises workshops and masterclasses. This is a demanding role and may be spread over two committee members next year - to be discussed at the AGM.

Media and promotions officer (Patrick Pamment)

Ensures our events are well advertised on social and other media and is the point of contact for external media organisations.

Music and technical officer (Espen Knoop)

Keeps the sheet music and technical equipment in good order.

Artist Liaison (Beth Roberts)

Is the point of contact for bands and DJs that play at our events.

You'll also be getting a report from the Society regarding finances, as well as a Presidential update. That all clear? Good.

Then, at 8pm, we have our standard COMPLETELY OPEN JAM! Yes, featuring all you wonderful people. If you want to sing, play or just dance the night away, Tuesdays are the night for you. Bring your musical WMD and bang out some awesome tunes.

At 10.30 or so - we will have FREIGHT.

They are a Bristol-based jazz quartet with original compositions drawing heavily from Thelonious Monk, and the fiery post-modern aptitude of John Coltrane.

Pianist Martin Jenkins is teamed up with the heavy tenor and soprano sax playing of Craig Crofton, the dynamic drumming of Richard Laws, and the rhythmic, assured upright bass playing of Greg Cordez.
