Class description:

The roots of Blues movement comes from solo dancing. We'll work on moving and grooving to various rhythms and explore how we can add, not just the aesthetics, but also musicality to various parts of our body. We'll aim to create a dance that's not only connected with the music but grows with it and brings out our personal expression in the process. You will never think of your dancing in the same way!

About Dexter:

Dexter Santos discovered Blues dancing in 2005 and found himself immediately drawn to the rhythms and sounds of the Blues. The emotional depth and range, the varied subjects and stories, the gut-wrenching and the hip-shaking, the gritty and the smooth gave new inspiration and direction to his dancing. With a background in various ballroom dances and Lindy Hop, Dexter has studied with and collaborated alongside leading figures in the global Blues dance community, earning a reputation as one of the most respected and engaging
instructors on the international scene.

As a teacher, Dexter aims to inspire dancers of all levels with the possibilities that Blues dancing has to offer while preserving its cultural roots, historic identity, and art form. Dexter travels around the world spreading his passion and joy for Blues dancing through his fun, inspiring, and challenging classes. A particular class favorite often referred to as the "Shim Sham of Blues," the Hound Dog routine (a solo Blues choreography danced to Big Mama Thornton's song of the same title) has been taught and performed with dancers in four continents.

A note on booking:

Blue Mondays usually runs on a very low-cost basis, and we love that - it means that people can come along for free or pay what they can, and that's great! However, when we bring in a travelling teacher or a live band, our costs go up. We've set up this booking page so that we can try to cover the costs for our June classes with Dexter, by showing you how much we'd need everybody to pay to break even, and allowing you to contribute more if you'd like. Having advance bookings also helps to give your organisers some peace of mind!

That said...

- booking in advance is not essential - if you can't plan in advance, feel free to turn up and pay on the day
- pay-what-you-can tickets and free tickets are still available, no questions asked. Dancing is important and necessary, and access to it should not be limited by income. Come join us! PWYC tickets available on this page; no need to book if you'd like to join us for free.

Entry requirements: no age restrictions
