Cuarteto Batey with Dj Spinthief at The Canteen

A gig held at The Canteen on Friday 19th June. The event starts at 22:00.

CUARTETO BATEY brings together four Bristol-based musicians from different Latin American and musical backgrounds, united by a shared love of Cuban and Latin American music.

Led by Cuban trumpeter and arranger Michel Padrón, the quartet explores the rich traditions of son, bolero, trova, guajira, canción and Afro-Latin rhythms through an intimate acoustic format. Voice, guitar, percussion and trumpet combine to create a warm, expressive sound that moves effortlessly between dance grooves, heartfelt storytelling and improvisation.

Drawing inspiration from the musical heritage of Cuba and the wider Latin American world, the group presents both beloved classics and lesser-known gems, reimagined with authenticity, sensitivity and spontaneity.

Expect beautiful melodies, infectious rhythms and a musical journey that celebrates the cultural connections between Latin America and Bristol's vibrant international music scene. From Havana patios and Santiago serenades to contemporary Latin sounds, Cuarteto Batey offers an evening of music rooted in tradition yet alive in the present.

Michel Padrón has spent more than two decades performing internationally and is the founder of projects including the Buena Bristol Social Club and the Bristol Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra, continuing his mission to bring authentic Cuban and Latin music to new audiences.

Perfect for listeners who enjoy acoustic world music, Latin jazz, Cuban son and songs that tell stories across borders.
