Mash up of hip-hop, afrobeat, R&B, jazz & funk from live psychedelic drum and bass collective The Merkäta Project is a psychedelic drum & bass collective born out of the productions of Bristol-based artist and producer Merkäta. Debuting in June 2025 with a show at Alchemy Audio at The Loco Klub, the Merkäta project fuses high-energy break and basslines of drum & bass with live sax lines from Thalassic, flute melodies and sung vocals from Dunya, folk-tinged violin, DJ skills and vibrant percussion from Merkäta, and MC flow from IAM13E. Together, they create an explosive sound: part rave, part ritual. Sets flow between intricate soundscapes, heavy low-end pressure, and bursts of live energy that blur the line between DJ set and band performance. It’s a genre-fusing, party-starting approach that pushes drum & bass into new territory whilst staying rooted in the underground.
