A
gig
held at The Canteen
on Thursday 29th October. The event starts at 20:00.
Effra are an instrumental trio consisting of fiddle & mandolin, accordion and guitar. Their music is rooted in the traditions of the British Isles yet draws on influences from Appalachia to the Balkans. With strong backgrounds in folk, jazz, rock, gypsy jazz and classical music, each member of Effra brings his own unique ingredients to the collaborative pot.
Since their debut performances in 2011, Effra have been praised for their high energy style, captivating compositions and an intense musicianship which gives their live shows a febrile shimmer. Whether taking you on a traditional romp through dancier numbers or enchanting you with delicately interwoven melodies, they will entertain everyone, from the tone-deaf to the those with the most discerning ears.
The tour, of which this gig is a part, is the result of the last two years of the trio's work, a period which has seen the release of their first studio album - Lose an Hour - , multiple festival performances and a growing following. Most recently, the boys have been working on new material and will be sharing the results with you. This is a chance to hear Effra's freshest tunes before they find their way into the upcoming second album.
