Reuben Fowler is a 23 year old trumpeter, composer and arranger based in London. He is the recipient of the 2012 Kenny Wheeler Award, the Musicians Benevolent Peter Whittingham Award and the Jazz Services Recording Support Scheme. His first record, an album of original big band music featuring himself, Stan Sulzmann, Jim Hart and Tom Harrell will be released on Edition Records in 2013. The big band consists of many of the UK's finest jazz and session musicians.
At this gig the sextet will be playing a wide range of music from straight-ahead influenced by the like of Tom Harrell, to more contemporary groove-based music featuring on Reuben's upcoming album.
All band members work in a wide range of environments: Josh Arcoleo and James Gardiner Bateman with Joss Stone and the'Rhino Horns'; Dave Hamblett with Ivo Neame, the late Abram Wilson and Phronesis. Although all are equally comfortable in any musical genre, they share a passion for jazz having met on the jazz course at the Royal Academy of Music. In addition to playing together in a variety of ensembles, they are all fantastic band leaders and composers in their own right; with albums such as Josh Arcoleo's'Beginnings' and Dave Hamblett's recently released'Light at Night'.
