**** USHTI BABA ****
Beatbox-powered acoustic folk. From Morris-dance moshing to Rajasthani reggae, Ushti Baba stuck out their sore thumbs to make a right scene in 2014...
...quaint hippy fields and 3am raves drank in the lovingly hammering sound of Ushti Baba. After a second heavy season of eighteen festivals the group's nailed its intricate sound, tightened up for dance-band punch and maintained intensive stage energy - they sweat, crowds sweat.
The eight musicians bring a cosmic rainbow of influence, served with skill and panache: Balkan to Drum'n' Bass, Klezmer to Gypsy-core - original and traditional songs and stories are uniquely inspired and exuberantly delivered.
Group-harmony vocals lead soaring fiddle and trumpet; beatbox lays the solid foundation of the super-heavy rhythm section as guitar, accordion, banjo and darbouka lock in; cello and double bass forge a powerful low-end. Their sheer enjoyment of the audience and each other is born of the call to entertain. Ushti Baba is consistently proven to get audiences up and dancing.
A super hi energy electro Gypsyfunk quartet with a twist of high chaos. Cooked at 400C for 9 months and served on a bed of harmonic tomfoolery. (Contains nuts)
Borne from a desire to make people dance uncontrollably, they recorded their first two demos with drummers - Clive Deamer (Portishead/Roni Size), Maff Scott (The Egg) and award winning violinist Gina Griffin. Having made a very welcome disturbance on the Bristol circuit, Shambolique's first summer has also seen Small World Festival, Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party and Bestival.
Mama Jerk and the Lady Fingers have spent a year mixing all the music they love into a Reggae Dub Gypsy Chanson Blues Funk implosion .dense, fun, good to dance to and good to drink to.
