Dis Fig, Regina Collage, David David, Spell Press at The Croft
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"Enter the Noid brings us another belter to bless The Croft’s mighty return with unearthly noise provocateur Dis Fig at the helm. Further warped experimentalism comes via Regina Collage’s psychedelic no-wave dreamscapes, lurching jazz-math-electronica improv from David/David and Spell Press’ crushing industrial-ambient. Essential FFO: Puce Mary, Evicshen, Carla dal Forno, Moin."

A gig held at The Croft on Saturday 13th September. The event starts at 19:00.

Enter the Noid is pleased to be part of The Croft's first weekend since relaunching with multi-hyphen experimentalist DIS FIG plus a stacked bill of local legends.

DIS FIG (Thrill Jockey, Purple Tape Pedigree, Hyperdub)
Felicia Chen has long resisted simple categorization. Cutting her teeth in New York City's DIY and experimental club scenes and channeling a passion for pop, metal, rap, and global dance forms into unpredictable DJ sets. In NYC, Chen quickly connected with beloved local underground imprint Purple Tape Pedigree, a collective of like-minded outsiders that still exerts its influence on her today. PTP handled the release of her debut album 'PURGE' in 2019 and it substantiated her artistic voice, refining her vast pool of influences into a cathartic distillate that oozes between vulnerable beauty and retching chaos.

In 2020, Chen teamed up with British producer The Bug for their collaborative full-length 'In Blue'. This time, she assumed the role of front-woman, augmenting Kevin Martin's fractured, dubwise productions with intimate cabaret echoes and blood-curdling screams. And in 2024, Chen connected with acclaimed post-metal operators The Body, using her signature atmospheric production and her voice to offset the duo's grinding drones. On 'Orchards of a Futile Heaven', released on Thrill Jockey, The Body and Dis Fig puzzle out a cathartic revision of "heavy music", muddling ethereal chorals with blurred and blown-out sampled textures and intense rhythms.

REGINA COLLAGE
Regina Collage has made a huge impact on the Bristol scene in a very short space of time since moving here only a few years ago. As well as fronting Zalizo, playing bass and singing in her native tongue of Ukrainian, her solo project is a curious dose of improvised no-wave which blends primitive synth repetitions with airy vocals. Alongside Cameron Smith, her performances are produced on a very small footprint of equipment which, nonetheless, makes for a set which is full of texture and feeling; intertwining forlorn moments with glimpses of hope.

DAVID/DAVID (Eggy Tapes)
Combining elements of electronica and jazz in an intensely satisfying mix, drummer David C and multi-instrumentalist David C's brainchild is an irresistible concoction of tweaked-out mathy electronica backed by off-the-wall drum fills. If you're a fan of early Hella or Battles, we reckon you're going to love David/David.

SPELL PRESS (ex-Grandchild, Sunglasz Vendor)
Spell Press is the solo project of Finn Hodgson which falls somewhere in the middle of industrial, ambient and noise. Expect distorted drum muckery and crushing synthetic sounds from a literal angel of the Bristol scene.
