No Violet

No Violet just want to be your friend.

The four piece from Bristol formed have quickly developed a unique
sound that balances sludgy, thick guitars with intelligent songwriting.
Whilst there’s an unhinged chaos in the screeching guitars, provided by Rhys Graham, and one-of-a-kind vocals of Ellie Godwin - recalling the likes of The Wytches and Pixies - the intricate grooves of bassist Kerry Funnell and drummer Pete Catada, plus the kaleidoscope sonics also bring to mind Radiohead and Slint.

‘Be My Friend’ is the first song off the band’s debut EP ‘Faces’, which is being released on translucent sea foam green 10” vinyl via Leisure Records on 14th September. It glides along at first; it’s calming verses hiding a darkness just under the surface, with Ellie’s hypnotic vocals teetering on the edge, before the song explodes out, hooking you with its driving riff.

Ellie reveals the disaffection that drives the song: “We're constantly being misguided by money and the media. We’re trying to ask if we all gonna stand together and make changes? Are we all gonna be friends? But it's basically about feeling helpless'”

The EP also contains a reworked version of No Violet’s previous single ‘America’, which received airplay from BBC Introducing, and earned them the attention of BBC Radio 6’s Tom Robinson, who praised its “tasty, fuzzy goodness”. The EP manages to capture the band’s impressive live sound, which has seen them play Dot to Dot Festival, ArcTanGent festival and 2000 Trees Festival later this year, as well as supporting the likes of Yonaka and Dream Wife.

The band are: Ellie Godwin - Guitar and vocals; Rhys Graham - Guitar; Kerry Funnell - bass; Pete Catada - Drums.
