Ivy Cairo are a Bristol-based trio whose music combines torch-song vocals, soaring live strings and a heavy dose of the city's soundsystem culture and love of all things bassy.

Originally comprising of Ivy on vocals, Tom Upton on violin and Dave (aka Sickman D / OPR8) on the beats, the band spent 2011 honing a live show fusing dubstep and drum & bass swagger with eastern melodies, reggae influences, and a heavy dose of trip hop and soul, unleashing it with a string of gigs across the South West and London. In early 2012 Dave moved on on to focus on his work as OPR8 - filling his shoes the band have recruited local breakbeat-botherer Will Andrews (better known for his productions as Wascal) who worked with Ivy on a release for Cut La Roc's Rocstar label in the past.

More about the band:

Ivy

A well known voice on the Bristol band circuit, Ivy has lent her vocal talents to a variety of Bristol bands (Formant, Syte and the Sound, Innamorati) as well as recording with DJ KriptiX, DJ Warcharm and Wascal. Along with her main Ivy Cairo project, she is always expanding her horizons working on side projects - look out Ivy collabs with Stantz, Fleck and Bertie Bass Hits coming soon..

Tom

An accomplished violinist, as well as playing with Ivy Cairo, Tom has spent the last couple of years touring with folk act Siddy Bennett as part of the Chai Wallahs roster, whilst somehow also finding time to play with the Bristol University Symphony Orchestra. Tom's carefully crafted string work and interplay with Ivy's vocals sets the band apart stylistically and is key to the Ivy Cairo sound.

Will

Producing as Wascal, Will has released his unique strain of Bristolian bass music on labels such as L2S, Studio Rockers, Noodles, Rocstar & Tigerbeat6 (to name a few), and in the recent past has remixed Foreign Beggars, Si Begg and Materia, gaining support along the way from the likes of Mary-Anne Hobbs & Laurent Garnier. Along with his work with Ivy Cairo, Will hosts a weekly show on SubFM (Sundays 7-9pm, www.sub.fm) and has DJed across the UK and Europe. (more info: http://www.soundcloud.com/wascal)

The band are currently working on brace of fresh material after a string of gigs across the UK, watch this space...
