This is the first of a series of in-person learning circles for anyone interested in collaboratively exploring deschooling, self-directed learning and young people's rights in education.
Artemis, Bess and Tim - mentors at The Garden - will be holding the space. Each session will be different, some might be more structured than others, but there will be time during each one for an open group discussion about a related topic and share our own experiences of deschooling.
During this session we will be sharing an Agile Learning tool called a Learning Sprint, where we take a topic we're interested in and explore how we might engage with it in a way that is personally meaningful.
The sessions are free to attend but spaces are strictly limited, so please let us know as soon as possible if you have a ticket but cannot attend. If you would like to make a donation (suggested £5-10) to The Garden we would be very grateful but there's no obligation.
This event will take place in our space, either in an outdoor covered area or our yurt. Please dress for the weather and comfortable shoes are recommended. Young people are welcome to either join the session or play in the woods but under fives should be supervised at all times.
Unfortunately the space is not accessible to all as it is up a steep slope but please let us know if we can make this more accessible for you or if you have any questions.
About us:
The Garden has been offering a Self-Directed Learning Community for school aged young people since 2016. Self-Directed Learning Communities are regular spaces where young people share power with adults and decide how they spend their time. We are a part of the Freedom to Learn Network, which supports anyone interested in young people's rights in education. You can find out more about Freedom to Learn, self-directed education and learning communities here: https://www.freedomtolearn.uk/index.php/network/sde-learning-communities
