July at The Greenman brings us two new names to the Bristol scene - Teorstan & Ilaina.
Teorstan;
Teorstan is led by songwriter, singer and guitarist Tom Martin. Named after the Anglo-Saxon word for the river that winds through Martin's hometown, Teorstan's songs reflect the storytelling of folk music, weaving stories that run like the channels of that same river, while thematically addressing the modern age. Tying together raconteurs like Bruce Springsteen and the quieter, poetic alternative folk of Sufjan Stevens and Bon Iver, the aim is to mesmerise and affect the listener through narratives that illustrate modern life.
Ilaina;
Ilaina is a Bristol-based singer-songwriter, performing original songs for bouzouki and guitar.
Her lyrics and melodies are born out of experiences of love, yearning and increasingly, are a thoughtful expression of the gentle mundanity of life. Her sound is shaped by nature, Soul and the sounds of the Folk Revival. An independent artist, Ilaina has an EP brewing but no music formally released as of yet; for a taste of how you’ll be sung to sleep, check out @Planet_slons on Instagram!
As always our host Max Harrison will open the afternoon with a short set before handing over to our showcase artists!
