See event details

A event on Saturday 1st November. The event starts at 14:00.

Greenbank Folk Club presents a fiddle workshop with Sam Sweeney - bringing traditional English music to life.

Join Sam for a workshop upstairs at The Greenbank, Easton to explore ways to liberate your tune playing and breathe life into your music! You'll learn tools and techniques from one of England's finest traditional fiddle players.

Nominated four times, and winner in 2015, of Musician Of The Year BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, Sam is a veteran of the mighty Bellowhead, former and inaugural artistic director of the National Youth Folk Ensemble, founder member of the acclaimed instrumental trio Leveret, and “one of the defining English fiddle players of his generation” (Mark Radcliffe) at the forefront of the revival in English traditional music.

This will be a fiddle-oriented workshop but other melody players are welcome. We recommend this workshop for people with some experience of playing traditional music however players of all abilities are welcome to join. If you're not sure whether or not this is for you, please reach out to Greenbank Folk Club and we'll be happy to discuss it beforehand.

The event will run from 2pm until approx 6pm. Doors will be open half an hour before so you can come in and get settled. Tickets are limited to 25 participants so please book in advance!

Greenbank Folk Club is committed to developing our access & inclusion in every aspect of what we do. Please get in touch if you have any particular access needs or would like to make a suggestion for how we can do things better in the future. We encourage you to fill out our survey after each event so we can hear your thoughts - QR code available in the venue.

This event takes place upstairs at The Greenbank Pub, Easton, Bristol BS5 6DP - unfortunately there is currently no wheelchair access to this space as it's accessed by stairs.

£5 tickets are available in advance - tickets on the door will also be £5. We strongly advise that you book in advance if you'd like to attend as we cannot guarantee there will be door tickets available if the event sells out.

Please tell your friends and share this event - live music, storytelling and dancing only takes place with the support of the community around us.

We would like to thank our partner projects, The Greenbank, EFDSS (English Folk Dance and Song Society) and Arts Council England for their support in this project.
