on Sunday 25th May. The event starts at 11:00.
Greenbank Folk Club presents a workshop from Hannah Moore: Storytelling for Sessions, Shows and Starry Nights - a day-long workshop on the craft of telling folktales in the oral tradition.
Come and explore how to bring a story to life - whether your telling it in a pub, on a stage, in formal setting or just for friends.
Hannah Moore is a traditional storyteller and facilitator with a deep love for how we bring the old tales to life and make them relevant to today. She is an associate teacher with the School of Storytelling and performs all round the UK and in Europe. She is also a ceilidh caller and folk artist, among other things!
Hannah frequently teaches storytelling to adults and young people alike, and is delighted to run a full day session with Greenbank Folk Club. www.hannahmoore.co.uk
It will be a day of games, exercises, techniques and imaginative/creative play/craft. The workshop will explore:
- The power of the storyteller’s own imagination and creative craft
- Ways to remember stories without learning a script
- Techniques for making live storytelling vivid and engaging - how to open up the cinema in your listeners' minds and transport people deep into the pictorial realms of wonder, delight and wisdom that the old tales carry.
- Ingredients for building your own confidence with taking the floor and sharing stories, whether you’re an experienced performer/public speaker, or trying it for the first time.
With the opportunity to share a scratch telling at the end of the day!
The event will run from 11am until approx 5pm. Tickets are limited to 18 participants so please book in advance!
Greenbank Folk Club is committed to developing our access & inclusion in every aspect of what we do. Please get in touch if you have any particular access needs or would like to make a suggestion for how we can do things better in the future. We encourage you to fill out our survey after each event so we can hear your thoughts - QR code available in the venue.
This event takes place upstairs at The Greenbank Pub, Easton, Bristol BS5 6DP - unfortunately there is currently no wheelchair access to this space as it's accessed by stairs.
£5 tickets are available in advance - tickets on the door will also be £5. We strongly advise that you book in advance if you'd like to attend as we cannot guarantee there will be door tickets available if the event sells out.
Please tell your friends and share this event - live music, storytelling and dancing only takes place with the support of the community around us.
We would like to thank our partner projects, The Greenbank, EFDSS (English Folk Dance and Song Society) and Arts Council England for their support in this project.
