John Lewis is a beloved mainstay of the modern roots and rockabilly scene, with a career that began in the mid-’80s. He first made his name with South Wales outfit The Rimshots, before going on to front The John Lewis Trio and Johnny Bach & the Moonshine Boozers alongside guitarist Darrel Higham.
He has performed at major festivals from Moscow and Las Vegas to New York, Tokyo and Melbourne, as well as touring Europe extensively. With 17 albums to his name, he also picked up BCMA’s Album of the Year, and in 2019 Spanish label El Toro Records released 33 Years: Stage by Stage, a critically praised 50-track retrospective.
Imelda May has long championed John, inviting him to open her shows and contributing vocals to his single “Waltz Around the Kitchen.” His versatility even extends to session work for drum & bass producer High Contrast.
Endorsements for John’s work have come from BBC DJs Tom Robinson, Steve Lamacq and Adam Walton, as well as legends including Wanda Jackson and Van Morrison.
On stage, he’s an electrifying performer, pairing a rich, life-soaked voice with a dazzling guitar style that runs from Merle Travis to Link Wray—bringing real heart, depth and character to his outstanding original songs.
