Eat. Make. Share: Faith in Action

A hot meal, cups of tea, creative workshops and a summer evening in a beautiful community garden.

Come on your own or bring someone with you. You don’t need to be religious, creative or confident speaking in groups—just open to meeting people and exploring ideas together.

This month’s theme is Faith in Action.

We’ll explore how people from Bristol’s different faith communities can connect and act together—and what all of us can learn from the ways faith groups support their neighbours and organise during difficult times.

MaFia Weekend CIC is a non-religious, LGBT+ led organisation. This is not a religious service - it is an opportunity to listen and learn across different beliefs and experiences. People of all faiths and none are warmly welcome.

We know experiences of faith can be positive, complicated or difficult. Queer and trans people are warmly welcome, and nobody will be asked to join a religious practice, disclose their beliefs or represent a community. We’ll agree how to treat different identities and experiences with care.

During the evening, you can:
-Hear personal stories about faith inspiring action
-Join relaxed creative activities and conversations
-Explore how people can support one another through change
-Connect with nature through a short, optional grounding activities
-Share a hot meal, drink tea and meet new people

Together, we’ll explore what our communities already do well and create messages from an imagined Bristol in 2036 - where people support one another through change.

You can take breaks, participate at your own pace and choose how much you want to share.

Timings:

Please arrive between 5:30pm and 5:50pm so you can find the garden, get some tea and settle in before we begin promptly at 6pm.

We'll start by welcoming everyone and agreeing how we’ll share the space. We finish together with time to reflect and say goodbye, so please plan to stay until 9:30pm.

Dinner will be served at approximately 7pm.

The meal will be vegan. Please share any allergies, dietary needs or religious food requirements when booking. We’ll let you know if there is anything we cannot safely accommodate.

Accessibility:

Seating will be available throughout, and you can take breaks whenever you need to.

The Haven is an outdoor garden with uneven ground and is not currently wheelchair accessible. The toilets are basic compost toilets, which are kept clean.

Some activities will take place outside, so please bring warm layers, suitable footwear and waterproof clothing if rain is forecast. There is a cosy covered roundhouse that we can use during wet weather.

How to get here:

The 48 and 49 buses travel along Fishponds Road. Get off near Eastville Park.

From Fishponds Road:

1. Walk down Royate Hill (B4469) and continue underneath the viaduct.
2. Turn left onto Clay Bottom.\ 3. Take the first immediate left onto Wainbrook Drive.\ 4. Continue to the bottom, passing the car-parking spaces.\ 5. Walk through the red-brick tunnel beneath the viaduct and pass through two sets of metal gates to enter the garden.

No proof or explanation is needed to book a free or reduced-price place.

Ticket income helps cover the food, venue, facilitators and staff time needed to run these events. Pay-it-forward tickets help someone else attend for free.
