Jausmė at The Ill Repute
See event details

A gig held at The Ill Repute on Thursday 14th April. The event starts at 19:00.

Jausmė - composer, singer, songstress is bringing the kanklės, a traditional Lithuanian zither-harp, to The Ill Repute all the way from The Baltics.

Since it's not easy to frame music, she describes her style as a concoction of experimental minimalist post-folk with hints of world, soul, jazz, dub, electronica and other genres she enjoys.

Jausmė's inspiration stems mainly from trying to find balance between urban life and nature, while listening to Romantic composers, minimalist classical music, artists/bands such as Moses Sumney, Thom Yorke, Nick Hakim, The Cinematic Orchestra, Radiohead, Yebba, Tash Sultana, Scientist, etc.

After half a decade of musical work (solo and other projects, documentary soundtrack in collaboration with BBC, electronic music collaborations, organising events) and life in Bristol, UK, the performer came back home to Lithuania in the summer of 2020.

In the beginning of 2021, Jausmė recorded a stripped back solo album, written all in her mother tongue, which has been released in March 2022 and dedicated to her late grandmother.

It's compositions, combining ethereal voice, 29 strings and poems, inspired by nature, travels, stories of love, loss, grief, realisations after unlearning, hypnotherapy and other life experiences, create an atmospheric audio journey, inviting to share one's story, remember and revisit the roots, and return to the authentic self.

Come enjoy the exclusive and intimate performance, where you'll get to hear the songs from the new album 'Namolio' (en. 'homeward') with live effects by Bristol based composer and instrumentalist Alex Garden, who mixed the album.
