A
event
held at The Island
on Saturday 21st June. The event starts at 14:00.
This is a work-in-progress showing after a week-long residency at The Island, kindly supported by ArtSpace Lifespace.
Written & Performed by Grania Pickard
Directed by Willow Vidal-Hall
Produced by Oddly Moving
The idea is inspired by the notes people write in their phones; the recipes, shopping lists and the draft letters to an ex. I’ve asked people to share their notes with me and I’m experimenting with how to turn this material into a show. The notes I’ve received are a touching reflection on our vulnerability as well as a lot of joyful randomness.
Since starting this process though something darker has started to creep in. Not to say that some of the notes I’ve received don’t have their own anger or melancholy, but it feels like world events have got to me. I no longer know if this is a show about Notes or about How to Survive An Apocalypse…or both.
The only way to find out is to make the thing. I hope it will be entertaining and absurd and include a parody of blind date and be unashamedly queer. If you would like to star on blind date, hear other people’s secrets or watch dark comedy about end times then come along. It is a work-in-progress showing so it will be unpredictable, unpolished and unfinished BUT the bonus is you can then tell me everything you thought about it after without having to hold back.
I’m still collecting notes so anyone who feels like they have a note to share please send it over via DMs @0ddly_moving (they will all be anonymous).
The performance takes place in The Gallery. Please arrive 10 minutes early and wait in the main entrance to The Island, where someone will come to collect you. Unfortunately there is no step free access.
