Al Lover/Slift Co headline show at The Island
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"Al Lover's heady electronics are sludge in atmosphere only; with no guitars in sight, this Californian experimentalist crafts a melting pot of trip-hop and trap that breathes in everything from kraut to dubtech too. Alongside label mates Yama Warashi, he's one of the acts that make Stolen Body hardest to pigeonhole. Burried between dense sci-fi guitar fuzz and Nuggets-esque garage hooks, space-rockers SLIFT fly over from France to offer another kick in the teeth for disciples of local acts like YO NO SE. ? A gig held at The Island on Saturday 9th February. The event starts at 21:00.

Al Lover and SLIFT double headline show at The Island (basement).

This will be Al Lover's album release show to Existential Everything out on February 1st as well as Slift's Bristol release show for La Planete Inexploree released earlier in 2017.

Al Lover

Producer Al Lover has spent the last several years evolving a unique approach to psychedelic and experimental electronic music. Creating a broken abstraction of what some might see as trip hop, Al uses a mix of samples, drum machines, live instrumentation, analog synthesizers and effect processing to draw out elements from the past and connect them to the future. From the 2011 garage psych tinged project, Distorted Reverberations - where he remixed bands such as Thee Oh Sees and Night Beats - to his up coming exploration of synthesized kraut, dark ambient and trap, Existential Everything, Al continues to explore the fringes of psychedelic music and the common threads within it’s various genres, drawing parallels where others might get lost.

Since 2013, Al Lover has been busy releasing a slew of projects on multiple labels (Stolen Body Records, The Reverberation Appreciation Society LEVITATION, Fuzz Club, Höga Nord Rekords, PNKSLM Recordings and more), as well as collaborating with artists such as Goat, Anton Newcombe, White Fence and Cairo Liberation Front, all while touring extensively, producing the Elevated Transmissions Podcast and working with Levitation and Desert Daze festivals as their official DJ. Al currently resides in Los Angeles, California.

SLIFT

A deafening mass of sonic magma, epic fuzz guitar flying over the fearsome motorik machine of bass and drum.

The fervent swayed hips and crazy energy are resolutely garage, but the psychedelic music of 70's (kraut and space rock at the top of line) is never far.

The three guys come from Toulouse, France and their first EP was released in June 2017 via Howlin Banana Records and EXAG' Records - Space Is The Key.

Inspired by Alain Damasio's science fiction novels and the work of French illustrator Pierre Ferrero, Space Is Key is ruthless. A raucous wall of sound and energy that sets the trio up for nothing but greatness. Five Nervous tracks loaded up with fuzz mayhem and maniac beats sharp enough to knock your head off spinning with their hypnotics riffs.

In 2018 they released "La Planète Inexplorée" via Stolen Body Records, Howlin Banana Records, Six Tonnes De Chair Records, EXAG' Records' and Rockerill Records.
