A
clubnight
held at The Love Inn
on Friday 31st May. The event starts at 22:00.
Resident Advisor’s ‘Make Space’ parties sees a new generation of promoters launching their inaugural events in partnership with some of the UK’s most important underground music venues.
Headlining the Bristol edition is anu, host of NTS’ flagship Soup To Nuts show and certified cross-genre party-starting royalty. A driving force in London’s party scene since 2015, the depth and breadth of anu’s digging is phenomenal and her mixes for Boiler Room, Resident Advisor Live, BBC Radio 6 & Asian Network have garnered significant attention. Her shows glide fluidly through a vivid palette of music ranging from nostalgic Bollywood soundtracks and glitchy experimental minimalism to Japanese Jazz and UK Funky, linked by a through line of driving, infectious percussive sounds. With a supremely varied collection and acute musical sensibility, she brings guaranteed smiles and more than a few surprises to the dancefloor.
anu is Joined by Rinse FM resident Kojay, whose versatility and instinctive feel for a dancefloor-friendly groove have seen him building some serious momentum over the last 12 months, gracing the decks at Fabric, Corsica Studios, Jumbi Peckham, Hootenanny Brixton, We Out Here Festival and Tola Peckham among others. His influences range from jazz and RnB to deep house and jungle breaks and he has a reputation for a killer radio mix with past appearances on Soho Radio, Refuge Worldwide, AAJA, and most notably Balamii Radio.
Local support comes from Bristol’s own DJ Chiedza & Shmael. DJ Chiedza's mission to break barriers and fuse cultures sees her reach far and wide across the spectrum of international club music to impressive effect, and Shmael is a match to her range, with sounds ranging from the dark and grimy to the rich & joyful. Their talents have seen both become a rising presence in the Bristol music scene, filling dancefloors at Bristol's most prestigious venues and festivals.
RA Pro launched Make Space in 2023 to support the next wave of promoters in collaboration with Corsica Studios (London), Colour Factory (London), Soup (Manchester), The Love Inn (Bristol) and Wire (Leeds).
Make Space aims to redress the balance in promoter demographics, both for the cultural benefit of the music industry and in pursuit of an equitable nightlife landscape. The pilot nationwide programme will equip 5 participants with specialist knowledge from industry leading party starters, breaking the barriers to entry for participants from groups that are currently underrepresented, including women and people of gender minorities, people from the Global Majority and participants from lower socio-economic backgrounds.
Bristol’s Make Space is brought to you by Crack Magazine Writer Demajerle Myers and DJ Katie Novo, working in collaboration with The Love Inn.
