Steadily becoming a world respected piano talent, in the incredible space that is The Mount Without, we are super proud to present and host 'In The Round' a concert the Fergus McCreadie Trio.
Fergus McCreadie is undoubtedly one of the most exciting young pianists on the world stage. With his unique blend of Jazz and Scottish folk music inspired by his country’s sublime landscapes, Fergus has been capturing the hearts and minds of audiences worldwide.
The young Scottish musician has been making quick progress towards becoming widely recognised. Whether he plays solo, with his trio, as part of corto.alto, or as part of Graham Costello's 'Strata' - when Fergus plays, people sit up and take notice.
At the age of 25 years old, he has (already) released three albums. Two of which: 2021's 'Cairn' and 2022's Mercury Prize nominated 'Forest Floor' were released on the renowned Edition Records. Prior to those two LPs, his debut 'Turas' was winner of the 2018 'Scottish Jazz Album of the Year' and also gained Fergus immediate recognition in London when just 20 years old, as it also won the 'Parliamentary Jazz Album Of The Year.
With an innate depth, flair and natural expression that communicates beyond his years, Fergus' ability to transition from a full flowing, radiant pulse-wash of sound, to a tranquil, first light stillness in a moment is simply breathtaking. Whilst his music is built on the folk traditions he has grown up with, it’s the versatility of rhythm and colour, the most delicate shades to the highest energy, that’s captivating.
The mix of jazz, classical and folk music played alongside deft, delicate players David Bowden on Double Bass, and Stephen Henderson on Drums, make for a unique mix that in one quick turn can take you from a serene cascading Scottish sun soaked landscape, stream trickling away, into a modern metropolis with frantic energy, urgency and buzz.
Watching Fergus play is a joy. Bringing a wonderment, and a curious comprehension as to how someones fingers and brain traverse at such a rapid pace with such fluidity. It's electric stuff.
The sheer dedication and amount of practice we can only fathom. One of the leading Jazz talents the UK has to offer...
Support:
Support on the night comes from Tiny Chapter aka Alun-Elliot Williams aka the guitar wizard from 'Waldo's Gift'. While Alan shreds and furiously FX's his way through the frantic Waldo's Gift cannon, his solo work in contrast is more gentle and less dense. Beautiful, delicate music, it shows another side to his work as (just like Fergus) an outstanding and committed musical talent.
This is a seated concert now to be held 'In The Round' with the musicians in the centre of the venue! - there are just 300 tickets available. Seats are based on section purchased- front, middle, back, wings and balcony. We won't be allocating a set seat per individual as such, but the actual seat you end up with (in each relative section) is based on a first come first served system. Show up early as possible on the night to grab your preferred spot in your chosen section.
Note: We also have a limited amount of 'low income' tickets available so please get in touch if you might need a cheaper ticket!) Any questions please email: [email protected]
This is an Applecart promotion in association with Root Music and Band On The Wall Manchester.
