Join us for an energising week of dancing

A week-long Summer series including morning class with Kip Johnson and afternoon workshops led by four wonderful artists: Amarnah Ufuoma Cleopatra, Jo Fong, Orrow Bell and Vanessa Grasse. All within the beautiful space of The Mount Without.

This week of dancing is open to all - you might be a professional dancer, have some dancing experience, or you may like to get your dancing practice going. You are welcome.

Come along for the whole week of dancing, or drop-in to any of the classes or workshops that you would like to attend.

There will be time to nourish your solo dancing practice, enliven dancing in community, balanced with space to explore ways we could move and be with the wider more-than-human world as a collective dancing ‘ecosystem’.
Morning class will warm the body, ground and prepare you for the rest of the day.

The afternoon workshops will allow you to delve into your current points of interest and to learn from a specific artist's practice.

A free communal lunch will celebrate and close our week of dancing. A chance to break bread together, share and reflect.

Give time to interrogating, discovering, and celebrating what moves you.

Watch this space for updates on evening events taking place this week.

DAY 2:

How Shall We Begin Again?
A workshop with Jo Fong
11th July, 2-6pm

Jo will lead an afternoon movement workshop drawing on the preparation and process for a performance called How Shall We Begin Again?

All are welcome. Jo will guide the session and she will share more about the project as a whole. The workshop is designed so anyone can be involved whether you are a professional dancer, someone who would like to dance or if you simply would like to embark on a process that is about relating to your own body.

“What I need might be a sensation, connection, vibration, space, higher ceilings, skipping…part of my joy in being alive, or simply being me, is me in my physicality. My dancing is changing every day, the dance has changed, no doubt everyone’s dance has.
I sense this process is not so much a choreography, but rather, a creative action.
Just a moment, to be in the moment, for us to see one another, to see our differences and practice being in that.” - Jo Fong

Morning Class with Kip Johnson
10-14th July, 11-1pm

Kip’s class will be a mixture of bodywork to begin - working in pairs and using touch, followed by structured improvisation, set material and most importantly playfulness.
As we journey through the class, Kip will draw from release-based dance practice, to play with the cause and effect of movements and how to create a relaxed efficiency whilst moving. Using clear places of initiation in the body and how to control the momentum that is created from these points.
Come as you are, and find ways to be both porous and curious whilst dancing. Then take this feeling out, beyond and into your day.
