Owl Light Trio at The New Room
Adult £14/£12 Advance. Concessions £12/£10 Advance.

A gig on Thursday 16th January. The event starts at 19:30.

Oxford-based “feral folk” group Owl Light Trio are Jim Penny on concertina, Jane Griffiths on fiddle and viola and Colin Fletcher on guitar. All three have deep roots in traditional music, share a passion for tunes from Ireland, the UK and Brittany, and draw upon their combined influences to create compelling, heartfelt arrangements.

As the instrumental core of Telling the Bees, they performed at folk festivals throughout the UK, among them Sidmouth, Moseley and Priddy. Jim has toured all over Europe with renowned French dance band Red Dog Green Dog; Jane has played and recorded with numerous artists, including Maddy Prior and Duotone; and Colin has performed extensively with Nancy Kerr and Tim van Eyken. Recent Owl Light Trio performances include BBC Countryfile, Klangrausch Festival (Germany), Oxford, Shrewsbury, Sidmouth and Tandem folk festivals, and the Nest Collective’s Campfire Club. Owl Light Trio released their debut album 'Owl Light' in March 2018 to favourable reviews:

'A fine album of beautifully-crafted music that is both memorable and clever' fRoots

'Flowing, effortless style...a bubbling energy.' Songlines

'Traditional and original tunes which push musical boundaries without ever losing sight of the tune and the tradition it is rooted in... Ranging from the hypnotic and ethereal to the rhythmic and punchy, this is instrumental music you can lose yourself in.' Bright Young Folk
