- Sputnik
Sputnik is less of a band and more of a sonic hijacking of the South West’s underground. Landing at the Old England, this four-piece collective strips away the polish of the session world to deliver a raw, unfiltered collision of heavy-set hip-hop and avant-garde jazz.
With Dan Plimer anchoring the chaos on a fuzz-drenched bass and Liam Dimmick warping minds via a wreckage of keys and synths, the rhythm section serves as a gritty foundation for OJ and the Horns to tear through the airwaves with jagged, brass-heavy hits.
Fronting the madness is Lilly Webb, whose vocals cut through the smoke with a blend of soulful defiance and rhythmic bite. This isn’t the polite jazz you find in a hotel lobby; it’s a high-stakes DIY experiment designed for the backrooms and the basements. Expect head-nodding boom-bap energy fused with the unpredictable spirit of a late-night jam—pure, unadulterated soul music for those who like their grooves with a bit of dirt under the fingernails.
