Hotwax Promotions presents Earth Tongue, Øgïvęš Big Band, SQUIG and Docking
Earth Tongue are a heavy psych band from Wellington, New Zealand. Since their emergence into the small but dedicated Wellington scene in late 2016, things have been on a steady upward trajectory for the two-piece. They released their debut EP ‘Portable Shrine’ soon after playing their first show, and since then have quickly become one of New Zealand’s most exciting underground live acts.
Frontwoman Gussie Larkin is known for her thick, fuzzy guitar tone with enough volume and bass to make the audience forget that there’s only two people on stage. She’s equally at home playing off-kiler heavy riffs or delicate, reverb-washed quiet sections. Behind the drum kit is Ezra Simons, who has a melodic and unusual way of playing that adds to the band’s intensity and intrigue. Both band members also provide vocals, creating a full, harmonized sound, adding psychedelic textures and interesting melodies to the carefully crafted songs. Gussie’s voice is dreamy and soft, and Ezra’s is harsh, throaty and thick, creating a contrast that the band members see as one of their most unique attributes.
"Earth Tongue stomp with heavy Sabbath-like riffs while at the lighter end, embracing tasteful imperfections that add texture to songs that might otherwise be a little straight." - Noisey
An eclectic mix of experimental and psychedelic, sometimes delving into an abyss of deep sonic noise, other times exploring rich cinematic themes. Freshly backed by a new lineup of killer musicians from the Bristol scene, adding a heavy, crushing twist to the music of mastermind Harris.
Their sonic turf is found somewhere in the doomy fields of Electric Wizard and OM, while meeting with the erraticisms of Zappa and King Crimson. Their unique blend has built up a lot of hype in old Brighton town, so we're happy to bring the three 'Goblin Rock' provocateurs to Bristol for the first time.
