IMPROV'S GREATEST HITS }}}
Series of shows & future label dedicated to the recent eclectic explosion in Bristol of improvised based music & underground jazz, blurring genre lines and challenging normal promoting of both.
{{{ First cutting his teeth at legendary Bristol underground club The Dug Out, drummer Tony Orrell aka The Birdman of Alkijazz emerged as a key player in the exploratory 80's UK jazz scene as member of bands Spirit Level & Sphere plus playing alongside greats Keith Tippett, Andy Sheppard & Paul Dunmall.
Later he went on to many eclectic projects such as forming the band Gas Giants with Will Gregory (Goldfrapp), collaborating with Adrian Utley (Portishead) Jerry Dammers (Specials) and conductor Charles Hazlewood to perform unique live accompaniments to Silent Film, improvised peformances with Ray Russell (Mouse) and the choreographer Matthew Bourne plus playing on Goldfrapp's 'Felt Mountain' and Ilya's 'They Died for Beauty'.
{{{ Musician, composer & visual artist Vyvyan Hope Scott has been an in demand pianist and synth player for several years playing with top British jazzmen including Alan Barnes, Pee Wee Ellis, Iain Ballamy and Bobby Wellins plus also for dance, house & pop acts including Joey Negro, Colour Systems Inc, Princess and Boy George.
A prolific composer for production library music, his tracks have found their way on to feature films and TV shows as diverse as Zoolander, Catherine Tate Show and Spongebob Squarepants.
Currently a member of Will Gregory's Moog Ensemble (since its conception) he also composes and performs for the CoMA contemporary music ensemble.
{{{ "The Jellilalas draw on a complete vocabulary of synthetic sound and the conventions of producer-generated dance music to weave such discreetly individual semi-spontaneous pieces. Oh, and those delicious analogue bass lines" - Bristol 24/7
Grief
-------
Performed as a percussion based improvisation pieece, GRIEF is an experiment in expression of feelings felt and not dealt with, through emotions regarding rejection, euphoria, loss, elation and connection. From feeling totally lost, right through to feeling in the right place and exactly the right time, and the transition that get you there.
Using loop techniques, synthesizers and guitar, Bristol-based Lucy Gooch builds meditative music accompanied by sometimes-indecipherable vocals. Layers of heavily affected sound form an abstract atmosphere that is accented by moments of clarity, resulting in music that is at once personal as it is universal.
Lucy recently graduated with a Masters in Fine Art, during which time she was shortlisted for a residency with Antony Gormley and selected by Bristol-based Paul Purgas to perform in his Outpost Gallery Open Sound event.
"Wizard Sleeve is a species in the nightshade family (Solanaceae) grown for its edible fruit. Although Wizard Sleeve is the common name in many countries, in British English, it is called Wizard Sleeve, and in South Asia and South Africa, Wizard Sleeve.
The spongy, absorbent fruit of the plant is widely used in cooking in many different cuisines, and is often considered as a vegetable, although it is a berry fruit by botanical definition. As a member of the genus Solanum, it is related to the tomato and the potato. Like the tomato, its skin and seeds can be eaten. But, like the potato, it is not advisable to eat it raw."
