C+nto & Othered Poems: Spoken Word Cabaret at The Old Market Assembly
See event details

A event held at The Old Market Assembly on Wednesday 7th July. The event starts at 19:00.

An evening of spoken word cabaret presented by Raise the Bar and Bristol Pride Festival, celebrating the Bristol launch of Joelle Taylor’s groundbreaking new collection, C+nto: & Othered Poems.

Featuring an epic support lineup of Bristol poets, plus 90s vibes from Booty Bass DJ's Devolicious & Ngaio!

Come along to Old Market Assembly for some of the finest spoken word poetry and delicious pizzas in town.

Described by Hollie McNish as ‘visionary and powerful’, C+nto enters the private lives of women from the butch counterculture, telling the inside story of the protests they led in the '90s to reclaim their bodies as their own - their difficult balance between survival and self-expression.

Part-memoir and part-conjecture, Taylor explores sexuality and gender in poetry that is lyrical, expansive, imagistic, epic and intimate. C+nto is a love poem, a riot, a late night, and an honouring.
