Paris Blues at The Old Picture House, 7 Winton Street, Totterdown, BS4 2BW

A event on Saturday 16th November. The event starts at 19:30.

Paris Blues is a 1961 movie based on the 1957 novel by Harold Flender which is also called Paris Blues. It’s a wonderful jazz film directed by Martin Ritt, starring Sidney Poitier as a jazz saxophonist Eddie Cook, and Paul Newman as a trombonist, Ram Bowen. These two men meet two American tourists, Connie Lampson (Diahann Carroll) and Lillian Corning (Joanne Woodward). (Paul Newman’s real-life wife). The film also features a cameo appearance by Louis Armstrong. The film tackles the issue of racism at home in the USA versus the freedom that Paris at that time brought to black jazz musicians, as well as the pull to join the civil rights struggle at home in the USA
