BIO:

Sometimes all it takes is an idea but sometimes this idea takes time. Suddenly, such an idea cannot wait any longer Can we play dance music completely live?

Generated from the experience of purely enjoying music, YMJ is a brainchild that has finally come into being. Steadily immersed in dance culture, it becomes natural to dissect and emulate the breaks and hooks that create such swelling pulses. Stemming from a heritage of playing hard rock and psych to jazz and folk, creating live dance music is thus a natural progression.

Bristol's stable of diversely trained musicians provided the perfect melting pot to form this unique band. Initially, drummer Richard Entwistle and bassist Jim Brooke began experimenting with a colossal amount of electronic and acoustic instruments. Soon, they realised that vibrant piano rhythms were crucial and multi-instrumentalist Louise Schwarz joined on keys. Vocalist Abbey May fused the core line up, creating a powerful sound. To further shape the music, YMJ enlisted saxophonist Andy Hayes, percussionist Stevie Evans and guitarist Tim Hearn.

Widely influenced by various artists and genres, YMJ write and play their original take on dance music, completely live.
