Pete Yelding / Claire Vine at The Orchard Coffee & Co

A gig on Sunday 8th January. The event starts at 19:30.

Cuculi Presents an evening of thought-provoking live music, in the spacious and resonant room at The Orchard Coffee & Co, Redfield.

Pete Yelding will be performing ragas in the traditional style of Hindustani music on both cello and sitar, accompanied by the acclaimed Hanif Khan on tabla. This will be the first time compositions from the Lucknow Shahjahanpur Gharana - a musical lineage that goes back to the Mughal courts of 19th century India - will be performed publicly on cello with tabla accompaniment. Support from Bristol-based singer & musician Claire Vine, renowned for her starkly honest and beautifully simple folksongs.

Tickets are £10 (general release), with a low income option (£7) and a community supporter option (£14). Having multiple ticket tiers makes the event accessible to people on different incomes while still making sure the musicians get paid, so please consider which tier is most affordable for you.

Drinks will be available from the bar during the evening.

CLAIRE VINE

Claire Vine’s songs sound like they’ve always existed. She has a knack for condensing urgent political and social commentary into concise, uncompromising moments of raw beauty.

Her debut EP Tunnel was released in December 2020, comprising six original songs with rich layers of harmonium and strings alongside complex a capella vocal arrangements, and between them all a thread of honest observations about the state of the world. She also sings and writes with dreamfolk trio Hands of the Heron, clarinet and harmonium to their arrangements, and contributing songs such as 'Take Me Outside' and 'Pieces of Me'.
