Poetry & Resistance: Bristol's Female Poets of the Past
Writing workshop led by Sukina Noor (Bristol City Poet 2024-26)

Date: Tuesday 17th March (before RTB's open mic event)
Time: 17:30 - 19:00
Venue: The Orchard Coffee & Co
Price: FREE (advanced booking essential)

Join Bristol City Poet Sukina Noor for a poetry workshop during the season of International Women’s Day, where we listen to the voices of two remarkable Bristol-based women poets whose words became tools of resistance, survival and change.

We will journey through the poetry of Hannah More, a poet, philanthropist and social reformer whose writing reflected her concerns with morality, education and social responsibility, and Ann Yearsley, the celebrated “milk woman poet” of Bristol, who wrote from the soil of working-class life, giving voice to labour, struggle and dignity.

Their poetry spoke to the injustices of class inequality, the brutality of the slave trade, and love for the city they called home.

In this workshop, we will use their words as inspiration for our own writing, exploring themes of freedom, gender, class and social justice through creative expression.

No experience needed. All welcome.

The workshop is FREE, but advanced booking is essential as there are limited spaces available. Head to the link in bio to sign up!
