EPIC COLLABORATION

Hip-Hop Garden (HHG)

Hip Hip Garden (HHG) is a dynamic, community-rooted programme that connects people with nature through the universal language of Hip-Hop culture. Built on the shared principles of resilience, creativity, and expression—captured in the idea of “the rose that grew from concrete”—HHG uses Hip-Hop as a bridge to inspire wellbeing, food sovereignty, and sustainable futures.

Curated and delivered by the May Team, who bring over 60 years of combined youth and community engagement experience, HHG offers inclusive and intergenerational programmes ranging from 1 to 24 weeks. Their work spans London, Bristol, and Gloucester, with growing international links in Zanzibar and Brazil.

HHG addresses the lack of diversity in the environmental sector by offering an alternative approach rooted in lived experience, cultural relevance, and community empowerment. Through five core elements—Wellbeing, Food Growing & Cooking, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Event Management—the programme provides practical, affordable, and scalable solutions that align with UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Participants learn to grow and cook plant-based food, explore creative expression through Hip-Hop performance and lyricism, and develop pathways into employment and enterprise. HHG also works collaboratively with local stakeholders to challenge misconceptions about young people, strengthen community networks, and drive long-term positive change.

In essence, Hip-Hop Garden cultivates both people and place—nurturing healthier lives, greener communities, and empowered futures.

Nature Youth Connection & Education (NYCE)

Nature Youth Connection & Education (NYCE) is a transformative programme dedicated to reconnecting young people with the natural world through culturally relevant, community-centred education. NYCE empowers young people to build confidence, wellbeing, and environmental awareness by making nature accessible, relatable, and meaningful to the communities it serves.

Grounded in youth voice and lived experience, NYCE creates inclusive spaces where young people can explore outdoor learning, develop practical ecological skills, and build a deeper understanding of their relationship with the environment. Through programmes that blend nature-based education, leadership development, creative expression, and community engagement, NYCE nurtures both personal growth and collective responsibility.

NYCE tackles the longstanding lack of diversity and representation in environmental spaces by ensuring young people—particularly those from underrepresented and urban communities—have the knowledge, agency, and opportunities to shape a more sustainable and equitable future. Their programmes support wellbeing, foster environmental stewardship, and open pathways into green careers and community leadership.

By connecting youth with nature in ways that honour identity, culture, and community, Nature Youth Connection & Education cultivates healthier lives, stronger neighbourhoods, and a new generation of guardians for the planet.

ACE (Aspiration, Creativity & Elevation)

ACE (Aspiration, Creativity & Elevation) is a Bristol-based organisation dedicated to uplifting young people through culturally rooted, community-driven programmes that spark ambition, nurture creativity, and foster personal growth. ACE creates empowering spaces where young people can explore who they are, develop their talents, and build the confidence needed to rise to new possibilities.

Blending arts, culture, personal development, and leadership, ACE provides meaningful opportunities guided by mentors with lived experience. Their work champions the belief that when young people see themselves reflected in the people guiding them, they are more able to imagine—and reach—greater heights.

ACE plays a vital role in addressing inequity across Bristol by ensuring young people, especially those from marginalised communities, have access to creative exploration, skills development, and pathways into education, employment, and the wider creative sector.

With a commitment to Aspiration, Creativity & Elevation at its core, ACE empowers young people to grow, express themselves, and rise—shaping a more vibrant and inclusive future for Bristol.

THE BRISTOL CABLE

The Cable is not your average newspaper.

In 2014, the UK’s journalism industry was at rock bottom. 2012’s Leveson Inquiry report revealed systemic, decades-long criminality by the tabloid press in order to get ever-more sensational ‘scoops’ to sell papers.

Trust in the corporate-owned press was at an all time low, at a time when papers really needed it – their business model was in freefall, as internet firms were scooping up the ad revenue. Local investigative journalism was the first to take the hit, and had been extinct for some time.

A small group of volunteers in Bristol decided to do something about the failures of corporate-owned local media – they organised, crowdfunded, and built a reader owned new-media outlet: The Bristol Cable.

As a result, Bristol now has its own investigative newspaper, 100% owned by thousands of local people, free to access for all in digital and print.

For more than a decade, our membership model has allowed us to focus on long-term, groundbreaking investigations rather than breaking news that relies on clicks for revenue. Together, we hold power to account through groundbreaking investigations, campaign for change, and amplify marginalised voices.

We are rooted in local communities, but we’re also a leader in the global movement to reinvent the media industry as a sustainable, democratic public service.

We can’t do it without you.
