on Friday 7th November. The event starts at 18:00.
Join Worms Theatre Company and Laura Singer for the first in a series of workshops exloring the Theatre of the Oppressed: a playful and profound exploration into power and responsibility.
Theatre of the Oppressed empowers us to interrogate and challenge systems of power within our institutions, communities and bodies.
Developed by Augusto Boal in Brazil in the 1970s for non-actors in marginalised communities, it has been used by people around the world to identify the roots of social and political oppression, 'rehearse the revolution' and move towards collective empowerment.
This workshop offers a new, funky form that blends clowning, improv, movement, and play — inviting us to slow down, step out, stand up, take power and engage in joyful rebellion.
This work asks us to step beyond hierarchy and into responsibility — to become witness of the world and summon the trickster who dances in the cracks.
Everyone is Welcome:
We hope to make this workshop as accessible as possible to everyone. We welcome members of the LGBTQI+ community including non-binary and trans people. We also welcome people with experience of marginalisation, neurodiversity and physical restrictions.
You don't need any acting, performing or theatre experience to take part in this workshop - just curiosity, playfulness and an open mind!
There will be options on the day for you to choose how you participate, including watching and taking breaks.
Meet your Facilitators:
Teddy Monroe, the founder of Worms Theatre Company, is a theatre facilitator and Kuringa trained by Barbara Santos, using the tools of Theatre of the Oppressed to inspire change within the education system.
Laura Singer, a theatre and Systemic Constellations facilitator, trained in Theatre of the Oppressed with Reboot the Roots, STOP London and Branch Out Theatre and spent a year collaborating with an international network of facilitators and educators taking the work online during the pandemic.
