Long-time friends, and UK stoner-rock, heavy blues masters Desert Storm will finally be returning to Bristol to headline the Stag & Hounds in March.
Oxford based riff hounds Desert Storm have been making a name for themselves since they formed in 2007. From the beginning the band have worked hard...with 3 albums and relentless touring of the UK & Europe with the likes of Karma To Burn, Nashville Pussy, Peter Pan Speedrock, Honky (ft members of Down/Melvins/Butthole Surfers) and Hang The Bastard as well as support slots to the likes of Orange Goblin, Red Fang, American Head Charge, Mondo Generator, The Atomic Bitchwax and festival appearances at The Bulldog Bash, The Desertfest, Brisfest & Roadkill (BEL).
January 26th 2015 was the worldwide release date for the current record 'Omniscient' (Blindsight/ Secret Law records- distro via Plastichead) which features 10 brand new tracks full of colossal riffs and pure rock fury, but with some moments of folk and psychedelia. The album was engineered by Jamie Dodd (Orange Goblin) and is the follow up to 2013's acclaimed 'Horizontal Life' record.
After blazing across both Europe and the UK throughout 2015, Desert Storm rounded off the year by featuring on Orange Goblin's 20th Anniversary Tour.
2016 has been a year of musical contemplation with the 4th album in the process of being forged. Hammerfest, Desert Fest Berlin, Camden Rocks & Bloodstock amongst other festivals along with a 12 day tour supporting the mighty Honky, have marked the bands commitment to getting out there on the road and honing their craft.
Gazing into the future, 2017 will mark a decade of riff making for the band, celebrating this with the release of their 4th studio album, along with multiple tours in the works. Keep your eyes open.
Grifter formed in the south coast Devon port city of Plymouth in 2003. The origins of the band lay in an earlier group going by the name of 16 Stone Mullet who featured Phil Harris on bass, Foz Foster on drums, Nev Mansfield on vocals and Nick Hollis on guitar. When Nick moved away to attend university this left a gap in the ranks. Nick’s original intention was to return every other week to rehearse so the remaining members teamed up with Ollie Stygall on guitar to form another band in the intervening weeks. As it turns out Nick never returned and the new band became the main act for all concerned. Several names were proposed including Teet, Greedo and Simon’s Fuck Hammer until drummer Foz suggested Grifter as a big fan of the push bike from the 70’s and 80’s.
After two months of writing and rehearsing Grifter played their first gig at The Phoenix in Plymouth on December 19th 2003 supporting Bristol based band Ivory Springer. The band’s set was well received, however, on leaving the stage vocalist Nev decided to leave the band as he felt he wasn’t up to the task.
The band reconvened in January 2004 with Ollie taking over the vocal slot having spent the Christmas break writing new lyrics and vocal melodies for the existing songs. On January 19th, 2004 Grifter played their second gig, one month to the day of the first gig, once again at The Phoenix with the new line-up of Ollie Stygall on vocals and guitar, Phil Harris on bass and Foz Foster on drums…the line-up that remains to the present day.
Prime cuts of riffs served with a side of tasty psychedelic mushrooms, garnished with a sprinkle of doom croutons.
Sergeant Thunderhoof were formed in late 2013 initially as just an excuse for old friends to get together once in a while and jam some tasty licks. It soon became apparent that a collective sound was emerging and so it was decided that they would go into the studio and do some recording. The result of which was 'Zigurat', a killer 5 track EP, stretching over 40 psychedelic doom drenched minutes. The album met with countless positive reviews and was included in many 'Album of the Year' polls on online blogs and sites. This led to shows around the UK playing with bands such as Elder, Mos Generator, Desert Storm, Grifter, Suns of Thunder, Baron Greenback and many more.
2015 saw the release of their first full length album 'Ride of The Hoof' which garnered even more attention and led to features in magazines such as Metal Hammer and Terrorizer. The Hoof plan to promote the new album well in to 2016 and are making tentative plans to play some shows and festivals in Europe in the Summer. A vinyl and tape release looks to be happening in the Spring.
"A psychedelic riff laden monster that blends Doom, Stoner Rock Hard Rock and Groove Rock. This album is dripping with class. If you want some new riff kings to follow or worship then Sergeant Thunderhoof is the band for you. Brilliant and highly recommended" - The Sludgelord
This three piece from Reading blend all your favorite sins into a rich odious syrup... they will rot your teeth.
Like a half submerged man slowing crawling onto dry land; Not yet completely visible. Dragging behind him all that he has experienced. Thick with mud, drenched with sweat. Feral, but subdued, waiting for the moment to drag you down.
