What is the importance of Afro-Cuban dance technique as a fundamental element for body movement in Cuban and Latin social dance styles?
This — and much more — is what we will explore and experience in my Afro-Cuban Body Movement Workshop on Thursday, December 11th.
In this workshop, we will work with the Oya Orisha movement vocabulary, learn the fundamental steps, capture the essence of each movement, and break down the body isolations to better understand how they function.
In the second part of the workshop, we will apply these principles to traditional Cuban social genres such as Son Cubano, Chachachá, and others, mixing Afro-Cuban dance with these social styles.
This will help us understand how to use Cuban movement in social dancing and the importance of learning Cuban body mechanics.
