Lee’s first solo project ‘Printing the Space’, marks as a departure from his predominantly screen based work. For the exhibition the artist will invite the audience to provide their labour by producing mono-prints. Their work will then hang inside the exhibition for its duration. The work will be anonymous, but together will create a room inside the Park Street Vestibule. The idea of using an exhibition space and transforming it into a workshop, was inspired by skills and methods learnt on East Bristol Contemporary’s Day School programme. A self funded alternative arts course that includes a studio as well as monthly workshops with invited guest artists and creative practitioners.

‘I’m interested in using the Park Street Vestibule as a workshop, where members of the public would be invited to make work that would then be hung inside. The space would first be prepared ready for audience participation. My current ideas are based on a workshop I was part of during my time on EBC’s Day School. We were talking about context and different timelines in relation to the physical space we were occupying, then writing and drawing freely about the different objects and people that may have inhabited the space before us or after us. I’m interested in taking these processes and translating them into mono-prints. They would grow and become the walls of a space inside an already existing structure, that could reference the space and create a new space within it. The prints would not be attached to the walls, but onto a framework brought into the space. This would be both my first solo exhibition and first time working with the public on a personal project.’

Lee’s work has been screened at Plymouth Art Weekender and Sheffield Doc Fest. He is an alumni of East Bristol Contemporary’s Day School programme ’22 and is an Associate of Open School East 2022-2023.
