Bristol’s Milk Poetry and Culture Weston’s Rhyme Against the Tide present this epic contest between seaside town and bustling city.

A poetic battle between Bristol and Weston-super-Mare, as seaside town and bustling city go head-to-head in this epic slam contest. With performances from three poets on each team, three poet judges will choose a winner, in this fun, energetic and powerful evening of delicious wordsmithery. The teams will be captained by Milk Poetry’s Tom Denbigh and Culture Weston’s Sophie Shepherd, and features guest performances from Tyrone Lewis and Aiysha Humphreys. TYRONE LEWIS:

Tyrone Lewis (he/him) is a UK Poetry Slam champion, Roundhouse Poetry Slam champion, Axis Poetry Slam champion and author of debut collection Blackish.

Tyrone is the founder of Process Production as well as its monthly spoken word night Process. He was also one of the inaugural Albany Associate Artists. As well as performing, Tyrone is known for hosting, producing and featuring at many spoken word nights across the UK.

Tyrone has also been involved with a number of major national poetry events over the years including 2010’s Word Cup, 2012’s Shake the Dust and 2015’s Shot from the Lip, as well as helping out with UniSlam since 2016.

Away from poetry, Tyrone is a full-time senior video editor. Tyrone has become known across the UK not only for his writing and performance but also for his work behind a camera.

AIYSHA HUMPHREYS:

Aiysha is a poet and performer from Cornwall, living in Bristol. They have performed all over the UK and last year worked in Romania with Tongue Fu exploring the relationship between music and spoken word. They were the poet in residence for the SS Great Britain in 2022 and their first poetry pamphlet, Saints of Golden Hour was released in February which treads soberness, girlhood, queer relationships and the gods we create for ourselves.
